As little as one teaspoon of local honey per day may help with seasonal allergies in Frankfort, IL. “Locally harvested honey contains local pollen. It is believed that your body will build up an immunity to the local pollen if you ingest it through the honey,” said Mike Nastepniak owner and proprietor of the Bee Humble Bee Farm located in Frankfort, IL.

Did you know that honey never spoils?

“Honey will not spoil however is will crystallize over time,” Nastepniak said. “Honey has a higher natural sugar content than it does water content. Therefore, the sugars will clump together or crystallize. The remedy to that is to heat a pan of water until it is warm (not boiling).  Remove from heat and place honey bottle-cap removed- in water. Once the honey has returned to a liquid state, place cap on and shake.” Nastepniak recommends storing your honey at room temperature.

Additional ways to use local honey…

In addition to being sweet, tasty and potentially helping relieve seasonal allergies, honey can also be used as an acne remedy and to cleanse pores by using it as a facial treatment. And, Nastepniak mentioned that honey can be used topically for minor cuts and scrapes because of the antibacterial properties. Nastepniak tends to his bees along with wife Lani and their children. The family lives in the country near Frankfort.
